Hot Tub Water Care Guide

Hot Tub Water Care Guide

HOT TUB WATER CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Test water chemistry weekly and balance accordingly, balanced water should maintain these parameters:

  • Chlorine should be kept at 3ppm, +/- 1ppm
If chlorine is high, do not add chlorine. Only add one cap of non-chlorine shock.
If chlorine is low, add one small cap of chlorine concentrate and one cap of non-chlorine shock.
  • pH should be kept at approximately 7.4-7.8
If the pH is high, you generally don’t need to add anything. Unless it is extremely high, a pH Decreaser should be used to adjust back to within the acceptable range.
If the pH is low, add two to four caps of pH Increaser to adjust it back within the acceptable range.
  • Alkalinity should be kept between 50-70ppm
If alkalinity is high, your pH is likely also high, and you will have already adjusted the pH level with pH Decreaser, which will also reduce alkalinity. No other treatment is needed.
If alkalinity is low, add one cap of Alkalinity Increaser to adjust the alkalinity level back within an acceptable range.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • Non-Chlorine Shock is not tested for but should be added once per week. 1 Inner Cap
  • Stain & Scale Control is not tested for but should be added. 2-3oz per week.
  • Bromine is not used with a chlorine system and therefore not tested for or balanced.
  • Calcium Hardness balance is not needed unless extremely high, which is rare. (If this is the case, consult us for more information.)

WEEKLY HOT TUB & CHEMICAL CARE

Suggested weekly regimen is as follows:

  1. Turn the breaker off.
  2. Remove and thoroughly clean filter(s) (either soaking in a bucket with degreaser or spraying with high-power nozzle)
  3. Re-install filter
  4. Turn the breaker back on and wait for the power to come up.
  5. Test water with test strips, compare readings, and adjust as needed following the parameters above or on the back of the test bottle. Maintain levels within the “OK” range listed on the bottle, comparing colors from the test strip.
  6. If chemical adjustment is needed, turn the jets on with the cover fully open and add appropriate chemicals to the water to adjust Chlorine, pH, and Alkalinity.
  7. Add only one cap of MPS (Non-chlorine shock) per week. Since you aren’t testing for this, one cap per week is added, no matter what, and only one cap per week.
  8. Add 2-3oz of Stain & Scale Control, once per week.
  9. Leave the jets running, and cover the opening for at least 30 minutes. There is no need to test again after adding chemicals to the water. If you do, it will result in a false reading.
  10. Clean the inside and outside of the cover with any non-petroleum/non-soap based cleaner or degreaser. Myers citrus cleaner is ideal. Simple Green will also work if rinsed off thoroughly after.
  11. Condition the cover with any non-petroleum based vinyl conditioner,  SpaGuard's “Cover Care Conditioner” is the best. 409 can also be used, or Myers.

If you need to adjust the balance in step 5, it’s always a good idea to test the water again after waiting a full 24 hours. Then, adjust accordingly again.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Stain and Scale Control and Non-Chlorine Shock should only be added once per week, at most.

BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING

Most common error messages are as follows:

  • FL
  • FLO
  • DRY
  • HL
  • Four-Six Dashes

If you encounter anything like this, know that a clogged filter most likely causes this. Remove the filter and cycle the power to see if it corrects the issue. If it doesn't clear or you see a different error code, contact us for troubleshooting help or book a service request.
